“Case of the Monday’s”

Have you ever seen the movie Office Space? If not, stop immediately what you’re doing and find a way to watch it! I promise it will be worth it! Anyways, I know everyone at some point in their life has had or does currently have a “case of the Monday’s.” I’m fortunate enough to be a stay at home mother, but, I dread when Monday’s roll around because my husband has to go to work and our fun weekend family time comes to a pause. Take this past weekend for example: we had just gotten our new beach cruisers, as you probably saw in the last post, and we couldn’t wait to get out and cruise around on them. Well that’s exactly what we did ALL weekend! From 8am till about 4:00pm on Saturday, and then from about 6am to about 2:00pm on Sunday. And let me tell you, riding beach cruisers especially with my amazing little family is one of the most therapeutic experiences I’ve ever had! It’s so relaxing to not only be able to see so much more than if you were walking around, but to be able to look at the ocean while riding your bike or watch surfers catch a gnar gnar wave, there’s just something amazing about it! So until our next beach cruising adventures next weekend, here’s some photos of our lovely rendezvous! If you want to check out more of these pictures, add me on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/AmandaKnudsen26. Here are some pictures of our adventures this weekend:

Some Things Just Don’t Make Sense

While my husband and I were looking into houses that were for sale, we discovered something that just didn’t make sense to us.  Leased land.  At first we thought, if this is what it sounds like, how exactly does that work and why?  So of course we googled it and found this out: there are some properties that you could potentially own the home on, but the land you will never own, because someone else owns’ it.  So what ever you might pay for mortgage, you also have to pay a leasing fee to the owner of the land.  Now this just sounds ridiculous doesn’t it?  I mean, the purpose of owning your own home and land is to eventually pay it off and just have property taxes to pay for once the payments are done right?  Or better yet, if you’re really smart, paying cash for it and still only having to pay property taxes on this piece of land.  Why would someone own just the home, and have to continue to make payments to someone else to lease the land.  To us, this is just as bad as renting, because this person that owns the land will more than likely up their lease rate every year since taxes fluctuate.  So other than making someone else money, why wouldn’t you just continue paying rent and then purchase your own home and land together?

If this makes sense to you or if you have or would ever do this please fill me in?!

I Found My Hippie Side This Past Weekend

So this past weekend, my husband, son, and I visited the Newport, Balboa Peninsula.  We had always wanted to rent beach cruisers and just ride around the city, but never had, even though we go there almost every weekend.  Well this past Sunday we did just that, and we are hooked!  I can’t be-lieve we never got beach cruisers and rode around!  The wonderful thing about this area is the Pacific Coast Highway runs along many beaches down here, and there are a ton of bike lines, pretty much every where you go!  So we rode up to Huntington Beach and rode around that little town and then rode back and rode around Newport, Balboa Peninsula. This was probably the most relaxing, fun having time I think I’ve ever had!  Which we’ve now decided, we need to invest in beach cruisers and a little seat for our Peanut Butter to sit in so we can do this every weekend!  We feel so blessed being able to live down here in SoCal, and to be able to go ride bikes every weekend in the beautiful weather we get down here!  My hippie side came out also while riding the bikes, and I loved being able to enjoy the scenery while cruising around and not having to worry about traffic or other cars, and I also like that we weren’t polluting the air by driving around, plus we got some amazing exercise!  I felt like even though it was only for a little bit,(but this will be more often now that we’re hooked! 😉 ) like I helped cut down on air pollutants and some how, some way, that made my heart smile!

Stay Classy San Diego

So this past weekend, my husband, son and I went to Sea World, and also visited the downtown area of San Diego.  Now I know there are a lot of fans of that city, but I’ve come to the decision of not being a fan of it.  I’m originally from Seattle.  I know what bums are and Seattle definitely has them, but San Diego is another story.  I never thought there could be such a large population of bums in one city.  There was one bum in particular that really stood out to me.  We had stopped to use the public restroom over by a restaurant that serves seafood.

While waiting for my husband, I curiously observed this bum.  He was wearing a large flannel button up jacket that went down to his knees, hadn’t had a hair cut in probably 10 years, and had very long fingernails.  There was one trash can container he kept working at to score something from.  After watching him, he finally popped open the side of the container and was able to pull the actual can out and retrieved a single, plastic soda bottle out of it.  He had to have been attempting to open this container for at least 5 minutes.  And all of that for a plastic bottle (that’s only worth maybe 3-5cents depending on where he would take it for recycling).  As the bum walked away, I noticed him eating out a bag he had also found in the garbage.  I’m assuming, it could have had some sort of seafood in it (since the seafood restaurant was right beside this trash can) and I thought, wow, I can’t imagine having to eat out of a garbage can especially if it had seafood in it.

This is when it all really hit me. I’ve always had a part of my heart that really felt bad for bums.  But there’s another part of my heart that doesn’t feel bad for them at all.  I’m really torn on how to feel about this situation, and am not sure if I’ll ever come to a conclusion.  This being the reason:  If you help out one, they’ll all want help.  And how do you tell if you’re helping the right one?  I remember when I was younger, there was a bum that became a famous millionaire off of pan-handling the streets of Seattle.  If I were to help them all out, I’d end up being one of them.  Also, there are people that dress “down” so to speak to go earn tax free money by doing this.  And I’ll be honest, I don’t want to help those people out.  Or the ones that say they’re veterans…..whew, don’t even get me started on those ones.  Or even better, the “mother’s that have babies, and don’t have food for them.”  There are programs out there!  And then there are also the pan-handlers that believe it or not actually prefer this style of living, or if you tried to help them out, they’d either take it as an insult, or take everything you gave them, and then be right back out on the streets.

So what’s a person supposed to do?  I was raised to ignore them, but when being in a city like this, that’s so full of them, it’s pretty hard to do.

On a lighter note, we had a blast at Sea World!  It was our little Peanut Butter’s first time, and he is obsessed with anything that has to do with the water, so it was a lot of fun to see all the facial expressions when he saw everything!  Here’s some fun pictures!

What If…The Roles Were Reversed?

So my husband called me today to tell me something he thought I would find funny. And what he proceeded to talk to me about I thought was not only funny, but it definitely got me thinking. My husband is an Account Manger for a large beverage company, so he has his own route and knows what the area looks like and the type of people that typically frequent the area. He informed me, that today at a convention center by one of his accounts, they were having a large business convention today. First thing that popped in my mind since we live in “flashy” southern California, is, “oh there’s probably either a lot of rich people there or a lot of people thinking they’re rich there.” He informed me that there was an abundance of business men in suits pulling up in Bentley’s, Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s, and so on. I proceeded to roll my eyes. You see, I’m a down to earth, doesn’t hardly wear make-up if ever, almost minimalist type of girl. So whenever I see people trying to flash their money around like they’re some sort of king it pretty much disgusts me. I mean why do you REALLY need a car that costs more than what a lot of people make in a year?! Not to mention the maintenance on a piece of machinery like that costs!

Anyways, back to the story, my husband also informed me that there has suddenly become a shmorgishborg of tightly clothed women in the area all of a sudden…hmmm. Why’s that you ask? Good question I don’t get it either! A lot (not all, I know there’s probably a select few that still have a heart), but most of them are so consumed with themselves and their money, how could you possibly, find that attractive? Then my husband mentioned the really funny part, “what if the roles were reversed?” Here’s the current picture: men all covered up from neck to toe in a suit, socks and shoes, being “business men,” then there’s the women wearing as little as legally possible, trying to “act as if they’re in the same area, at the same time, for something, coincidently.” But here’s the question, what if the women were all dressed from neck to toe in business suits, and the men were wearing as little as legally possible? Would it be looked at the same? And why are there always a large group of women that flock to “business men” like that, hoping and wasting their life trying to get with these guys for their money. If the money is really what these women want, if they spent all the time they waste trying to find that “rich man” on going to school and getting a degree and ACTUALLY using it, they wouldn’t have to whore themselves out, and they could find a real man that will actually love them, and show affection to them, like I’m sure these women, also, want.

I know some people may not agree with me on all of this, but that’s ok! That’s what makes the world go around…I guess. 🙂 But I’m sure there is one thing we can all agree on, is it would be pretty funny to see men trying to flaunt everything if the roles where reversed!

What are your thoughts on seeing things like this?

Watching My Baby Boy Sleep

Becoming a first time mother has truly changed my life in more ways than I can explain. When I first met my dreamy husband, we were both in the military. Before I met him I never sincerely understood the meaning or “felt” the meaning of what it means when you say, ” I would do anything for you, I would die for you.”. That is until I met him and it hit me. It’s not really anything that can be explained until you’ve felt or experienced it. Well, I also never thought I could love someone so much as I did him, until we had our little miracle. I used to never want kids. (Another thing my husband naturally made my feelings change about, not sure how it happened, it just did). And sometimes in life, those are the best moments! But when I heard his first breath (cry) and met our baby boy for the first time, all I could do was cry! Now that he’s growing up, and it’s all happening WAY to fast, I cherrish all the moments I have with him. When I go and check on him while he’s napping, I can’t help but to just stand there over his crib, and watch him sleep. He’s such a perfect little angel, it’s painful! Not in a bad way, but it’s just overwhelming to look at him sometimes because he’s so amazing! I know I’ve become one of those crazy parents that does nothing but talk about their child all the time, but that’s ok with me! It’s all worth it, he’s worth it, because he amazes me and teaches me so much each and every day.

In what ways has your child changed your life?
